Time to start thinking about golf again

Kerplookee Fantasy Golf – Time to start thinking about golf again.

Well the first full field event of 2012 is under way in Hawaii and the smell of freshly mowed grass is in the air. I don’t know about you guys but I have a slighlty difficult time getting geared up for golf in 30 degree weather and I know some of my friends in Minnesota feel my pain.

One thing I like to do this time of year however is start to figure out which guys are going to make their mark on the PGA tour this year. Which Nationwide tour graduates will hold their own. Which ones will win a tournament and which ones have staying power and keep their cards. Last year it was Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson and Jason Duffner. This year who knows….Perhaps Bud Cauley, Kyle Stanley or first round leader Graham DeLaet. Or perhaps oneĀ of the guys I watched at the Cardinal Amateur right here in my backyard a few years ago……Kyle Reifers or William McGirt. Or just maybe Jeff Maggert or Tim Herron can catch lightning in a bottle and rise to the top again. Any of these options are possible along with a plethera of others of course.

What do you guys think? Who is your dark horse pick this year?

One thing is for sure. It’s not going to be me!

  1. Yes Chuck, we’re thinking about golf up in Minnesota, although it hasn’t been too bad a winter so far, only 3″ of snow on the ground, and people were actuccy playing a charity tournament for a high school hockey player paralyzed from a check from behind a few weeks ago when it warmed up to 50 degrees!

I have a few dark horse predictions for the year.

The first is the comeback of Robert Garrigus. He’s lost a lot of weight, his mini-golf putter, and seems to have acquired a fresh attitude toward the game. I see a great year for him.

I also think Camilo Villegas will have a win or two, and many top 10’s. He sure turned it on at the end of last year. Watch him!

Last, I agree with your mention of Graham DeLaet. I see no problem for him returning to healthy golf this year. A probable victim of youthful hockey hits himself, his back seems to be fine so far this year. Long and accurate, I see a win this year for him somewhere on the Tour. He’s played well in the early tournaments, and thilk he’ll only get better as the season progresses.

    Lumpy??? (Herron),
    I don’t think so.

Matt Every has looked pretty good so far, he just has to keep his mouth from running ahead of his brain in the post-game interviews. Interesting comments, but I don’t think we’ll hear any further details about his comments until he gets on Feherety’s show!
